Rosalie and Arthur

November 18th, 2011  |  by Cheryl  |  published in Just for Fun, Motion

Unfortunately, being in New York chasing dreams also means missing out on important events back home. My friend Rosalie’s wedding is one of those things that make me wish I could just dash out to Hong Kong for a moment and join in on the celebration. Luckily, Rosalie and Arthur have compiled a stop motion [...]

Have You Seen My Sister Evelyn

November 18th, 2011  |  by Cheryl  |  published in Just for Fun, Motion

There aren’t a lot of things I like about winter, but drawing on windows with condensation is definitely one of them. This fun little video by Small and Creepy Films reminds me of one of the nicer things about colder weather. It even has squeaky drawing sounds! Winter, I am ready for you.

Splitscreen: A Love Story

July 3rd, 2011  |  by Cheryl  |  published in Just for Fun, Motion

Just another video that uses parallels. This one juxtaposes the cityscape of New York and London. Keep them coming–I love these!

Symmetry

April 27th, 2011  |  by Cheryl  |  published in Just for Fun, Motion

It’s the final stretch of the semester and I really should be finishing my presentation on stereoscopic equipment right now, but this beautiful video by Everynone reminded me of a stereograph. And you know how much I love parallels.

Botanical Silhouettes

March 31st, 2011  |  by Cheryl  |  published in Just for Fun, Notes to Self

Sitting still, reading and writing is not enough. Some days (like today) I wake up and just want to make things I can hold. The result doesn’t have to be refined–I just want an interesting process. The art direction for the March 2011 issue of Martha Stewart made me smile this morning. This summer, I’m [...]

Christmas in New York (with Cheryl!)

December 30th, 2010  |  by Cheryl  |  published in Just for Fun

What I love most about New York is walking through the city on my own. There’s so much to discover and experience, and you can never really feel alone. Except, of course I did feel a tiny bit lonely when all my friends went home to spend Thanksgiving with family. Americans are extremely efficient, moving [...]

Cheryl as a Designer

October 30th, 2010  |  by Cheryl  |  published in Just for Fun

Felix sent this to me last week with plenty of enthusiasm: This is you! This is so you–music you’d play as you either work or do recordings over. All of their music is you!!! So I listened to it, and he was right. Lullatone is Japanese pajama pop group “characterized by an innocent, child-like quality and [...]

Pretty Pretty Pictures

August 6th, 2010  |  by Cheryl  |  published in Books, Just for Fun, Things I Want

Moving all my books with me across the ocean later this month will be a hassle, but I won’t be able to leave them behind. I like reading, but I also love picture books. One of my favourites include I Like You by Sandal Stoddard Warburg, as it was a beloved gift. The tiny square book [...]
